Rebuilding to Remain

Rebuilding to Remain: Families from Al Aqaba Village thank you for your help as they build colorful, eco-friendly homes on the land they own. 97% of this Palestinian West Bank Village is under demolition order by the Israeli Army. Families are building their homes because otherwise their village will cease to exist. They are helping with construction, will repay affordable mortgage loans, and are matching donations in this constructive fair housing initiative. Together, we share the risk and build advocacy to make them safe.

Here are the families in a pivotal meeting with Architect Hani Hassan and engineers to approve designs for their homes! Consensus achieved!

There are four important parts to the Rebuilding to Remain approach:

1. Village Centered Design

We brought architects to work with villagers to design their affordable, expandable, eco-friendly homes!

2. Precedent Setting Legal Work

Al Aqaba Village is the first Palestinian town to issue building permits in Area C.  RA is first to provide mortgage loans in Area C.

3. Crowdsource Mortgage Financing

Families invest all they can and people the world over match them, thus spreading out the risk of demolition.  Here is Rebuilding to Remain on GlobalGiving.

4. Worldwide Advocacy

Engaging worldwide advocacy to recognize the right of Palestinian villages to plan and issue building permits.  Join the U.S. Movement to Save Palestinian Villages.
