Campaign: Keep Palestinian Families in their Jerusalem Homes
Problem
Across East Jerusalem neighborhoods, hundreds of Palestinian families are facing eviction from and/or demolition of their homes.
Salem Family: The Salem family, comprising 11 individuals, is under imminent threat of eviction from their home of 71 years in the western section of Sheikh Jarrah, a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
Salhiyah Family: On January 19, 2022, at 3 am, the Israeli authorities evicted the Salhiyah and Ikramwi families and demolished their homes after having destroyed the family business of the Salhiyah family two days earlier. The Salhiyah family has documents dating back to 1967 that show the family's ownership of the land.
Approach:
Write to your Senators and Representative to contact the US State Department and Israeli Embassy on your behalf and express concern.
Fuelled by constituent letters & phone calls, Rebuilding Alliance arranges briefings about evictions, demolitions, settler violence, and more to inform American elected & diplomatic officials.
Constituents can also lead their own briefings directly with their Members of Congress.
Benefit
Constituents emails and call to your Senators and Representative have proven to be effective in other interventions, including the prevention of Palestinian school, home, and neighborhood demolitions. We believe this can be effective here as well.
