Salhiah Case was admitted by the Court!

Maria Syed

Thank you for supporting the Salhiah Family in their pursuit of justice. With your support, the amount of $24,000, the legal fees required by the Court to hear the Salhiah case, was raised. The court admitted the case in December 2022 and started the proceedings. It has notified both the Police and the Jerusalem Municipality that the Salhiah family has brought a case against them. Both have yet to respond to the case. Because of the delay (refusal) in response to the Court notification, the Court has fined both the Police and the Jerusalem Municipality a 500 NIS fine, approximately $142 each.

The Court has not yet informed the Salhiah family if and when they must pay more Court fees – for experts, guarantees, etc. – but we and the family are confident that with your support it can be covered and justice will prevail.

Winning this case, as Mahmoud puts it, “will revive his soul and bring back the colors to his and his family’s life”. Mahmoud says, “losing everything was the most difficult thing that I have ever experienced. But when my granddaughter was born, it became even more difficult, I felt like I must secure her future. Winning this case will do just that.

The Salhiah Family are excited as they start a new chapter of their lives with their new garden and planting projects in the Village of Beit Iksa. One of the main things the Salhia family lost in addition to their home was their garden. It was their main source of income and also their passion. Mahmoud shares, “I love to plant and see how things grow, I think it's unbelievable! I feel at peace in my garden and that I am regaining my health and strength”.

Thanks to your support, the case has been admitted by the Court, with your help. We will be sharing the updates with you as the case proceeds.
