Tehmina Zeb came to the USA in 1980 from Pakistan. In Pakistan having studied in International schools she was exposed to diversity. However, it was as an adult, living in the US she started appreciating the diversity around her. She says she is a better Muslim because she has lived and learned from the diversity around her. She is a person of deep faith and strongly believes Allah has created one humanity. This being the principal of her life has led her to work for social justice and equality for all.
Her community service began from starting an Islamic weekend school in Omaha Nebraska in 1988. There were hardly any resources to form a curriculum yet with hard work, gradually the school got running and still is running. All this led her to multi-faith work as well. Tehmina was trained in August of 2001 by ING to be a speaker on Islam 101. This was the unfortunate year the Twin Towers were attacked. This built her confidence in public speaking and bringing people together. To nurture an understanding and respect for each other. She also served as a board member for her local affiliate of ING.
Tehmina’s next major endeavor was working as a Faith Relation coordinator for Habitat for Humanity as an Ameri-core volunteer. There were a lot of first-time achievements, such as the first Multifaith Coalition and Multifaith Musical Fest fundraiser. Later she served as a Board member for Habitat for Humanity in Kohler, Wisconsin. It was with Habitat that she became a strong believer in their motto, “Serve God through God’s people.”
Tehmina has a degree in economics and statistics. After raising her two boys, she went back to school and got a degree in education. She says teaching is her passion and not a job for her. She has taught for over 15 years. She served as a Board member for an upcoming parochial school.
Rebuilding Alliance is the kind of organization that is everything she believes in. She feels confident that her life experiences and convictions will guide her to help Rebuilding Alliance. For her, Rebuilding Alliance is giving “hope” to people who are suffering the worst kind of oppression in the world at present. Besides having raised two wonderful boys, she is a proud grandmother. She believes we all have a purpose in life, her purpose is to serve God through God’s people. Hopefully, this will make the world a better place for all children.
